A MAKERSPACE AND ACTIVITY CENTER

NOW ACCEPTING MEMBERSHIP APPLICATIONS!
Who we are & what we want to do

At Taos Launchpad, we offer a wide array of tools to members ranging from equipment like 3D printers, laser and vinyl cutters and sewing machines as well as workshops, which combined, offer opportunities which can’t be found anywhere else in our town. By providing a safe and engaging creative space that sparks curiosity we provide a healthy outlet for youth and adult makers alike.

We have outfitted our campus through refurbishing discarded materials, we started with trash and have created a cutting-edge facility with production and training capabilities in micro-startups, recycling, manufacturing, prototyping, visual arts, digital media, electronic repair, computer programming, clothing/eco-textiles, and more. We are committed to sustainability and transformingour town’s waste stream into wealth.

Taos Launchpad seeks to provide opportunities through programs designed to foster education, vocational access, and creativity.

Taos Launchpad is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization
serving the community of Northern New Mexico.

The Goals

1: Provide high-quality, programming for K-12 youth.

2: Develop educational and workplace readiness skills.

3: Offer a makerspace, science lab, digital media studio, and various art resources.

4: Host a wide-variety of STEAM workshops and programs.

5: Provide engaging community outreach projects.

Spaces and Tools

the Makerspace

CNC Milling

We have a small 4-axis CNC mill, and are currently rebuilding a more industrial CNC mill for larger projects.

3D Printing

With 5 3D printers around, you know that at least one of them is working at any given time! There's also a wide variety of filaments to experiment with.

Laser Cutting

The Launchpad laser cutter can slice through all kinds of materials with insanely detailed precision. Bring your sunglasses - It's hard not to watch!

Vinyl Cutting

Our vinyl cutter can transform wide volumes of plastic vinyl into stickers, signs, and iron-ons for clothing.

Art & Design

Explore the various mediums of artistic design - from painting to glass-etching to calligraphy.

Sewing

This area has plenty of working sewing machines, fabric, and thread needed to sew, plus the tools and materials for other fabric crafts.

Jewelry Making

This area is still being organized, but we hope to make this a space where people can make jewelry, primarily with recycled objects.

Radio Broadcasting

This is where we demonstrate the basics of operating FM, HAM, and online radio stations.

Music Production

This room has a large table with a computer running music production software and cords running all over the place to machines piled up against the walls. Two recording booths are currently in construction.

Film Production

We're planning on using the large garage space in the Launchpad building to build sets and a greenscreen wall for film projects.

Woodworking

Bandsaws, table saws, drill presses, sanders, hand tools, and more.

Metalworking

This area is in development.
Currently we have a few metal furnaces, a homemade foundry, some crucibles, and other casting equipment.

Movie Theater

Equipped with retro theater seats. Popcorn machine coming soon ;)

Taos has an electronic waste problem

we have a solution

READ THE PROPOSAL

ELECTRONIC RECYCLING

Our facility has been built on machines and equipment that was recovered from the recycling center of our small town. We are making a huge impact on the waste stream by reusing or repurposing old things. Even if it doesn't work and we can't fix it - It can still be used for arts.

OLD COMPUTERS AND LAPTOPS

Most of the computer that are being dropped off at the Taos recycling center aren't very broken. Maybe a bad charging port, or in need of a hard drive- but these machines can be repaired and given to people that need them. We also plan on offering electronic repair workshops teaching basic hardware repair so these machines make good candidates for educational activities.

PLASTIC RECYCLING

We have been building 3D printers from old inkjet printers that were being thrown away.
We would like to take it a step further by producing our own filament from recycled plastics.
